Description de la conférence
The Temerty Discovery Centre at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto is a landmark research facility dedicated to advancing innovation in mental health care and research. Spanning 385,000 sq. ft. across seven storeys, the building will bring together more than 1,400 staff and support over 38,000 patients annually. Designed as a collaborative hub, it will house state-of-the-art research laboratories, clinical trial facilities, academic and lecture spaces, offices, and a central atrium that fosters interaction and knowledge sharing. Upon completion, it will be the largest hybrid mass timber public building in Canada.
In this presentation, David Bowick and Matthew van Riesen of Blackwell Structural Engineers will explore the development and implementation of the innovative BubbleLam floor system on the CAMH Temerty Center. They will discuss the origins of the concept, its structural behaviour and design principles, the challenges and opportunities encountered during implementation, and how the system evolved throughout the design process. They will conclude with key lessons learned and perspectives on the future applications of BubbleLam technology in mass timber construction.
